With its modulus prefab design, this double story home maximises its small 55 square meter foot print bringing the outside in as nature floods through its glazed walls and panoramic glass roof.
2. Aussie Brilliance
Next on the list is the ergonomic house based in Brisbane, using some of Australia’s most beautiful reclaimed hardwood. Designed by two graduate architects and a builder, Greg Thornton, Lara Nobel and Andrew Carter managed to squeeze everything you need into a very compact 18 square metres utilising modern technology to transform the lounge into the bed or creating a stepped ceiling.
3. The Japanese Trio
The Hut of Cork, The Hut of Aluminium, The Hut of Wood; this trio of micro homes is set to take the industry but storm with its small price tag and minimalist design. The homes are set to go on sale this year by Japanese company Muji, featuring floor to ceiling windows, traditional Japanese baths and a wood-burner stove.

Designed for south Africa these cheap to run environmental homes are built for solar power providing the full living experience in the smallest foot print yet, just 17 square metres! The upstairs mezzanine floor is a comfortable two-person sleeper with the bottom floor squeezing in a shower, kitchen, living room and entertainers patio.
5. Brazilian Bungalow
With the biggest floor plan of the five, this 130 square meter home is designed by Atelier Marko Brajovic. ‘ARCA’ can comfortably fit two couples and all their kids with plenty of recreational room. The self-supported shell structure has minimal impact on the surrounding environment with a build time of only 1 week being able to be deconstructed and relocated at the blink of an eye! That’s if you ever get sick of your private rainforest retreat and exclusive waterfall.
